Chef Carl Messick has an impressive culinary background. After graduating from Middle Township High School (Cape May Court House, NJ), Carl attended New England Culinary Institute in 2002 and first worked at the Backyard Restaurant in Stone Harbor with his brother Glenn. He came to Cape May and the Virginia Hotel as the sous chef in 2004 and quickly became the executive chef of the popular Ebbitt Room. Later he moved to Stone Harbor NJ to work for Chip Roman, proprietor and executive chef of the award winning Blackfish restaurant. The next summer he served as executive chef of the White Heron in Stone Harbor. In 2011, Chef Carl assumed the role of Executive Chef of the well known Cape May destination location Peter Shields Inn and Restaurant.
After a decade tenure at PSI, Carl is excited to branch out on his own to create his own identity. And so Grana BYOB was born.
Grana BYOB is a sixty eight seat dream of our executive chef/owner Carl Messick. We will utilize local and seasonal ingredients to produce our vision of modern American cuisine. Located at 413 South Broadway in Cape May, Grana BYOB is taking a minimalist approach to fine dining.

Attire that combines well-fitting, polished business wear with elements of casual attire like blouses, shirts, button-downs, dress pants, dark-wash jeans, and refined, practical footwear.
